Balboa Community
A Newport Beach Community
Forming a neighborhood in Newport Beach, Balboa consists of Balboa Island and the Balboa Peninsula. It is located in Orange County within the State of California. Balboa is comprised of a peninsula and three islands, partially man made, partially natural, and it forms a major part of Newport Harbor. Access to Balboa Island is gained via a two-lane bridge found at the northeast corner of Balboa Island and also by a car ferry which operates every few minutes between Balboa Island and the Balboa Peninsula. Access to Balboa Peninsula is via Balboa Boulevard.Initially Balboa Island was not easily accessible, the harbor itself was mainly un-dredged and using a small boat was the only way to travel to and from the island. It wasn’t until 1870, when Captain Samuel S. Dunnels arrived aboard the steamer Vaquero that work began toward creating the exceptional harbor facilities we see in the Balboa community of Newport Beach today. If you are relocating to Newport Beach and need to find schools for your children, find a list of Newport Beach schools including public schools and private schools.
