Costa Mesa Demographics & Economy

Year 2000 census statistics revealed that there were almost 110,000 people living within the city, which is made up of almost 40,000 separate households consisting of around 23,000 families. Situated 435 miles south of San Francisco and 90 miles north of San Diego, it covers an area of 16 square miles and at its southern most border is only one mile from the Pacific Ocean.

The local economy of Costa Mesa relies heavily upon retail and associated services.  The largest commercial center is South Coast Plaza which is a large shopping centre. It is notable for its size and impressive architecture. The volume of sales made through the 322 stores within this huge shopping facility makes it one of the highest volume regional shopping centers in the United States.

Costa Mesa Schools & Education

Education within Costa Mesa is served by several local schools, of a very high quality.

Additionally, in 1975 the Whittier College opened a satellite campus of Whittier Law School within the city. There are two high schools, Costa Mesa High School and Estancia, along with two middle schools, Tewinkle Middle School and Costa Mesa Middle School.  Lastly there is the Costa Mesa High School.

Costa Mesa Entertainment & Recreation

Entertainment options are rich and varied, as you would expect from any large urban area. The aforementioned South Coast Plaza is not only the highlight of the local shopping facilitates but also boasts a full range of restaurants and eating establishments along with a cinema. Patrons of the arts will surely enjoy the Orange County Performing Arts Center which has its home in Costa Mesa; this excellent venue puts on a yearly schedule of performances alongside running a youth scheme and encouraging amateur theatrics.

There are 26 parks to be found within the city borders, many of which contain gaming courts and picnic facilitates, some are landscaped to perfection, all are open to the public. The Municipal Golf Course is also an excellent place to take the air, even if you are not a keen golfer.

Costa Mesa is a growing town, with the ability to provide every amenity and facility required to live an active and modern lifestyle. Due to the buoyant local economy, the city makes an excellent place to work with many fine prospects for employment or for the entrepreneur. As a place to live, the excellent schooling and abundance of fine recreational facilities make it a great place in which to raise a family.
