As of the year 2000, census statistics showed that there were almost 24,000 people living within the Laguna Beach area, which made up 11,000 separate households comprising almost 6,000 families. The population density came out at just over 1,000 per square kilometer.

This 3.2 mile section of beach forms the edge of a 2,400 acre section of woodlands that is completely undeveloped. Inland the activities of horse riding, mountain biking and hiking are popular but it is in the ocean that the most impressive sport is available. Incredibly high quality scuba diving and snorkeling is available from the beaches.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center

A firm favorite with all the family is the Pacific Marine Mammal Center. More than just a zoo, the establishment runs a complete rescue, rehabilitation and release center for many forms of ocean wildlife. The center also runs a full program of educational courses for all ages and groups.

Pageant of the Masters

Each year the local community of Laguna Beach looks forward to the Pageant of the Masters. This incredible display shows recreations of classic and contemporary art using real people, posed to look exactly like pieces in the original, to recreate them. There is also music in the form of the local orchestra, which all takes place within an outdoor amphitheatre.

Sawdust Festival

Another highlight of the Laguna Beach yearly calendar is the Sawdust Festival. It bills itself as “creatively fun” and is a fully interactive art exhibition which includes art classes and demonstrations. Covering every aspect of art from music to photography, this hugely popular event seems to grow each year.

Laguna Beach is one of the world’s foremost seaside communities. It found media fame during 2004 when MTV began to air the reality TV show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. The show has run for 3 seasons and has firmly put Laguna Beach upon the map.
