The year 2000 census statistics show there were almost 3,000 people living in the area at the time the census was taken, comprised of just over 1,000 households made up of 776 separate families. It should be noted that due to the completion of the planned community construction projects, the population is believed to have climbed to 10,000.

The Resort at Pelican Hill
This 36 hole Tom Fazio designed golf course originally opened in 1991, has just completed a major “re-perfection”. Newport Aquatic Center
Newport Coast follows a fairly nautical theme with much of its recreational facilities, the most impressive of which must be the Newport Aquatic Center. This Olympic water sports center was founded in 1987 and offers kayaking, rowing and outrigger facilities. It also serves a complete summer camp program for youngsters of all ages.

Newport Harbor Nautical Museum
Following the same nautical theme is the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum. The establishment provides a combination of historical exhibits, learning activities and special events. Newport International Film festival
Moving away from the seafaring theme, we find a very different kind of annual event in the Newport International Film festival. Founded in 1998 by Christine Schomer, Nancy Donahoe and Pami Shamir, this relatively new festival has proven extremely popular. Newport Theatre Arts Center
Continuing with the arts and entertainment facilities, we move on to the Newport Theatre Arts Center. This establishment has won the Orange County award for Best Productions over many years. It is now in its 25th consecutive year of operation. It focuses upon affordable arts at a reasonable price and is well received by the local community.
